FAQ

What do I tell my child about Play Therapy?

We will go through these details in the intake session.

What will be available to my child during the session?

Your child will have access to a variety of toys that have been specifically chosen for the therapeutic process. Some of the toys include real life toys (dolls and play kitchen), creative expression toys (sand tray and art based materials), role play toys (dress up and superheroes), open-ended toys (blocks and building), and sensory toys.

Does my child need to bring anything to the session?

No your child does not need to bring anything, however, if they have something they want to bring into the playroom they are welcome to do. Children will have access to crunchy snacks if required for regulation. There are toilets and water available on site.

Do I need to come into the session with my child?

Generally, no, the parents take a seat in the waiting area, however, I will work with you if transitions are tricky and I want to ensure your child feels safe and supported entering and being in the playroom.

How long will my child need to see you for?

There is no definitive time frame that a child engages in Play Therapy. During the intake meeting, we will develop treatment goals which will guide the progress.

Will you provide updates on sessions?

We will have regular meetings to discuss progress and review treatment goals. Initially this will occur after the first 3 sessions with the child and then move to after every 3-5 sessions. These sessions are separate to the child’s sessions. You are an integral part of your child’s Play Therapy journey and I value your input.

What if I need to talk to you before a session?

It is important that the session starts and finishes on time to create predictability for the child. If there is something you need to tell me, please email or arrange a time to call me before a session.

Can you come to our home or child’s school to provide a session?

I have previously provided mobile play therapy, however, I am not currently offering this service.

What funding do you accept?

I accept NDIS and private paying clients. I work with self and plan managed NDIS participants. As an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker private paying client’s can access a Medicare rebate via a Mental Health Treatment Plan obtained from your GP.

When are you available for sessions?

I offer in person sessions on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and every second Saturday. I provide Telehealth sessions on a Tuesday and on clinic days. Please get in contact to discuss available time slots.
